Shari-Lindemann Chapter 4

Lindemann talks about the origin or rhetoric.  Is rhetoric a "fraudulent practice"?  Is it supposed to indicate power over another?  Is the power struggle inherent to the nature of rhetoric?  Yes, great writers use language powerfully because of their mastery of it.  They know how to use the language for their advantage.  That is not necessarily a bad thing.  If all rhetoric is one form of persuasion, then that is just the nature of the beast.
